Z-r0 Waste Oracle Jacket MTO
Z-r0 Waste Oracle Jacket MTO
Sustainably made in New Jersey, USA. Patches for the Z-r0 Waste Oracle Coat are cut from discarded garments (mostly denim jeans) and repurposed into a new story. Denim has integrity, while it is strong and durable, it shows wear and tear in ways that make it more interesting as it gets worn and aged.
Old jeans and rescued and painstakingly ripped apart and re-worked into a unique piece of wearable art. I spent years working in the corporate fashion industry which now ranks as the 4th most polluting industry in the world. It uses a staggering amount of water, pesticides, and energy. Mass produced clothing has become a soulless commodity made in poor countries, by people paid low wages and forced to work in unsafe conditions. Even the luxury segment of the industry uses this model. I’m using what is discarded to recreate something new that also makes a statement about excessive waste in an industry that has been slow to acknowledge the part it plays in climate change.
My mission at MMD is to build awareness about how our clothing choices matter. One person alone can’t change the world, but historically big changes have begun with small groups of committed citizens.
