My Style is a Work in Progress

My style is a work in progress. I say that just to give myself and my style a lot of wiggle room. But if you don’t allow your attitude and your style to progress you end up looking like a throwback to the era in which you last changed your hairstyle.

I have a few items to list here that remind me to stay flexible.

  1. I have a base uniform that I wear 80% of the time, jeans and black T. especially this past year. As soon as I start going out again, I look forward to wearing some of the more off beat pieces in my closet.

  2. I like high-low mix: sequins with sneakers or thrifted jeans with fancy Italian stilettos. Mixing like this gives me more occasions to wear items that would conventionally be reserved for more formal occasions, of which I do not have many...

  3. Having some interesting toppers (like my jackets) to throw over my uniform makes it easy to transform myself without expending a lot of energy. Sometimes I’m a little lazy about changing so I can leave my uniform on and put on a jacket, interesting shoes and some great jewelry and voila, no ones know I have on an old worn-out T-shirt with holes in it.

  4. I have a lot of arty and off-beat pieces that I mix with denim and camo. Wearing something unexpected with something familiar makes me more comfortable. I’m just finishing up a ball skirt made completely with scraps from my design room floor! I’ll anchor it with a T-shirt and one of my denim jackets. Wait for it…

  5. I ALWAYS have on some version of a t-shirt. I have piles of tanks, short sleeve and long sleeve versions depending on the season and all black. I’m big busted and have always felt conspicuous in light colored tops and constricted by woven shirts and blouses. Plus, they tend to gap in the front! Eew!

  6. I don’t try too hard. To me on of the biggest faux pas is to look like you spent too much time putting yourself together. If I’m spending too much time trying on and reworking my look, I remind myself that I have more important things to do. That usually gets me dressed and moving quickly!

  7. I have a flexible style groove, so I have room to be adventurous.
